Your privacy
is our priority.
We believe privacy is a fundamental right. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when using LocalMonero.
Introduction
LocalMonero is a peer-to-peer Monero trading application designed with privacy as a core principle. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you download, install, and use our desktop application.
We are committed to transparency. LocalMonero is open-source software — the entire codebase is publicly available for auditing. We do not collect, store, or monetize your personal data.
What Data We Don't Collect
LocalMonero operates entirely on your device. We do not collect:
- Your wallet addresses or private keys
- Your transaction history or amounts
- Your IP address (the application is designed for network-level privacy)
- Your email address or personal identity information
- Metadata about your trading activity
- Any government-issued identification documents
Your funds remain under your exclusive control. LocalMonero is non-custodial — we never touch, hold, or have access to your XMR.
Our application architecture ensures we literally cannot access your data even if we wanted to. Everything stays on your device.
Minimal Data Collection
To provide you with an excellent experience, LocalMonero may collect only:
Application Logs
Diagnostic logs are stored locally on your device only. These logs help us debug issues and improve the application. They are never transmitted without your explicit consent.
Update Checks
When you check for updates, the application may contact our servers to retrieve version information. This connection does not transmit identifying information about your system or configuration.
Crash Reports
If the application crashes, you are presented with an option to send an error report. This is entirely optional and disabled by default. Reports contain only technical debugging information, no personal data.
How We Use Information
Any information we collect is used exclusively to:
- Improve application stability and performance
- Fix bugs and security issues
- Provide you with important updates
- Comply with applicable laws (only when legally required)
We never sell, trade, or share your information with third parties. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or analytics.
Data Security
Security is fundamental to LocalMonero's design. All sensitive operations happen on your device. We implement industry-standard security practices:
- End-to-end encryption for peer-to-peer communications
- No centralized data storage of user information
- Regular security audits and code reviews
- Open-source codebase for community scrutiny
- Secure defaults that prioritize privacy over convenience
Your private keys never leave your device. The application uses only your locally-stored keys for signing transactions.
All wallet data remains encrypted on your device. No cloud sync, no servers.
Generate addresses and sign transactions without internet access.
Third-Party Services
LocalMonero connects to the Monero network to send and receive transactions. When you interact with the blockchain:
- Transactions are broadcast through Monero's decentralized peer-to-peer network
- Your IP address may be visible to Monero network peers (though Dandelion++ obfuscates the origin)
- The application does not use centralized block explorers or analytics services by default
LocalMonero does not integrate tracking pixels, analytics libraries, or third-party cookies.
Your Rights
Because we collect minimal data and store nothing about you centrally, traditional data subject rights (access, deletion, portability) do not apply in the conventional sense.
However, you have the right to:
- Understand how LocalMonero works (review the open-source code)
- Disable any optional data collection features
- Delete the application and all associated local data from your device
- Run LocalMonero offline or behind a VPN/Tor for enhanced privacy

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or to comply with new regulations. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Updating the version number and date at the end of this policy
- Providing a prominent notice within the application
- Requiring explicit consent for material changes that increase data collection or use
Your continued use of LocalMonero after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
