Everything you need to
start trading XMR.
This guide walks you through every step, from installing the app and creating your wallet to completing your first secure peer-to-peer trade.
Download LocalMonero
for your platform
Only download LocalMonero from the official website at localmonero.co. Avoid third-party download sites or unofficial mirrors to reduce the risk of modified or malicious files.
Create your Monero wallet.
Follow these steps to create and secure your LocalMonero wallet.
Open LocalMonero and select Create a new wallet. The application generates a new Monero wallet on your device.
Write down your 25-word seed phrase on paper and store it in a secure place. Never share it or save it in a screenshot or cloud storage.
Create a strong local password to protect the wallet file stored on your device. Use a unique password that you do not use elsewhere.
The wallet connects to a Monero node and begins synchronizing with the network. Wait for the initial sync to complete before using the wallet.
Once synchronization is complete, your wallet is ready to receive, send, and manage XMR.
Browse thousands of live offers
filtered to your needs.
The P2P marketplace lists real offers from real traders worldwide. You control the filters — currency, payment method, amount, and reputation. Here's what the trade browser looks like:
A protected trading process.
Every step is checked.
When you open a trade, the seller’s XMR is secured in escrow while you complete the payment. The funds remain protected throughout the trade, giving both sides time to complete their part of the transaction.
Click "Buy" on an offer. XMR locks into escrow automatically from the seller's wallet. You can now communicate securely in the encrypted trade chat.
Pay the seller using the agreed method (bank transfer, gift card, cash, etc.). Upload proof of payment in the trade chat if required.
Once the seller confirms receipt, they release the escrow. XMR appears directly in your local wallet — never in a hot wallet on our servers.
Leave feedback for your trader to build the reputation network. Your transaction is now permanently private on the Monero blockchain.
Something went wrong?
You’re not left on your own.
If a trade does not go as planned, you can keep working through the same trade instead of starting over. Share the details with your trading partner, provide the relevant information, and use the dispute process when an agreement cannot be reached.
Start a dispute from the trade when you cannot resolve an issue with your trading partner.
Messages, payment details, and other trade information stay available for the dispute process.
Both traders can explain what happened and provide the information needed to review the trade.
The dispute process helps determine what happens to the escrowed XMR when the parties cannot agree.
Before your first trade,
read these.
Yes. Creating an account only takes a few minutes and allows you to manage your wallet, build your trading reputation, and access all platform features. Once registered, you can start browsing offers and trade securely with other users.
No. All trade messages are encrypted end-to-end on your device before they are relayed. Transaction data is obfuscated on the Monero blockchain. We are technically unable to read your trade history.
Open a dispute from the trade screen. A randomly assigned independent arbiter reviews the evidence (chat logs, payment receipts) and co-signs with the winning party to release the escrow. The 4-of-5 multi-sig means no single party can steal the funds.
Most trades complete in 15–60 minutes depending on the payment method. Fast methods (crypto, instant bank transfer) can complete in under 5 minutes. Slower methods (cash, postal order) can take a few days — the escrow stays locked until you confirm.
LocalMonero charges a small 1% arbitration fee only on disputed trades that require an arbiter. Normal trades have zero platform fees. You only pay the standard Monero network transaction fee (typically under $0.01).
The current release is desktop-only (Windows, macOS, Linux). A mobile companion app is on the roadmap. For now, the desktop app is fully functional and the most secure option — mobile apps carry higher risk of key extraction.
